Steam
Steam is purchased from Progress Energy Co-generation plant located on the main campus. Steam is produced as a by-product of electrical generation, thus making the purchase of steam more economical and energy efficient than producing it. The steam is distributed to most major campus buildings through an underground piping distribution system.
Building steam is used to provide heating hot water for the building air conditioning systems as well as identified hot water requirements.
