CHILLED WATER

Chilled water used for air conditioning (HVAC) is produced at various plants around campus with a capacity of 50,000 tons. These plants are connected via underground distribution piping loops.

Various plants can be interconnected to support the required chilled water demand to provide redundancy. The main chiller plants are: Heat Plant II, McCarty, Weil, Walker, Southeast, Southwest, West Campus, and Law Center. Extensive preventative maintenance is performed daily and also annually at each plant during the winter in order to ensure maximum availability and reliability during peak cooling periods.

Chilled water is used to provide cooling for the building air conditioning systems.
