HSC BIOMEDICAL WASTE SERVICE
Building Services Department at the Health Science Center provides biomedical waste pick up for
clinics and research laboratories. Building Services staff will deliver biomedical boxes (30 gallon)

follow:
Bio-hazardous Boxes (cardboard)
- Boxes must be taped securely with strapping or packing tape along the bottom and sides (three-tape method). When full, box must taped along the top and sides as well. Flaps are not to be folded in. Masking tape and labeling tape is not appropriate for sealing these boxes.
- Boxes must have the bio-hazardous symbol clearly visible.
- Boxes must be labeled with the supervisor's name, date, and room number on the outside of the box and placed in an upright position.
- Please continue to pack boxes so that they may be easily lifted for disposal. However, please note that boxes must weigh less than 55 lbs. in order to be processed.
