Architecture and Engineering
The basic mission of the Architecture & Engineering Department of the Physical Plant Division is to provide quality customer service. It considers that it functions in support of the Division to maintain and operate the facilities of the University such that the full resources of the University continue to educate and conduct research.
The Architecture & Engineering Department provides project management services in support of the maintenance, remodeling, and expansion of the University's buildings, utilities systems, and grounds. Generally these projects do not exceed, individually, $1,000,000. In addition, the Department also manages, without limitation as to cost, all utilities expansion projects, such as the recent S.E. Chilled Water Plant exceeding $11 million in installed cost; McCarty Chilled Water Plant, Phases 1, 2 & 3, $13 million; and a Waste Water Treatment Plant utilizing the latest technology, $9.5 million; et al.
The Department also provides engineering and architectural services for smaller projects in support of the operations of the University. This Department has a normal volume of approximately 180 projects valued at $35 to $40 million dollars on an ongoing basis. The staff serves either as in-house architects or engineers, or as the University's Project Managers for work assigned to outside consultants.
Additionally, the Department is responsible for maintaining University property records, record drawings of as-built conditions and records of all E & G buildings and utilities, as well as permits from various governmental agencies.
The Department also manages the planning for the supply of utilities to meet the needs of an ever-increasing expansion of the University's academic and research organizations. For more specific information on our sections please visit the links listed above.
